Sergio Perez admitted to mixed feelings on Wednesday as he returned to Monaco. The last time he was in the Principality to race - for his debut grand prix in the fabled Principality - he was hauled away in an ambulance, having been knocked unconscious in a huge qualifying crash. "To me it's unbelievable to be back here after such an accident," the 22-year-old said on Wednesday, according to Germany's Auto Motor und Sport. Mexican Perez said Monaco is still his favourite track. "It is […]

Highly motivated and excited, the Sauber F1 Team heads to the  most prestigious Grand Prix of the year. The Sauber C31-Ferrari’s performance has further improved since the introduction of the recent development package, and now it remains to be seen how this works on the narrow street circuit of Monaco. Ferrari say Massa contender for 2013 race seat

Ferrari has played down rumours it is close to immediately ousting Felipe Massa, insisting it is possible the struggling Brazilian will still be in a red car next year. On Twitter, the famous Italian team said the latest rumours - including a claim that former Virgin driver Jerome d'Ambrosio is a candidate to replace Massa in 2012 - are "funny". But it was Ferrari itself who fuelled the speculation, publishing a statement on its website that read like a warning to Massa. "It was a […]

Vettel still leads despite hard day

Sebastian Vettel remains in control of the Formula Drivers’ Championship, despite enduring what the Red Bull Racing driver called a “hard day at the office” at the Spanish Grand Prix. Vettel started seventh and climbed to sixth but dropped to ninth when he was hit with a drive-through penalty for failing to heed yellow flag in the wake of an accident involving Michael Schumacher and Bruno Senna. The defending champion was also hindered by a long regulation third stop when he took on a new […]

'Gazzetta' proposes Perez, Sutil for Massa's seat

Felipe Massa's Formula One career appeared in deep crisis on Wednesday, as the Italian press lined up multiple candidates to replace him. Earlier, the weekly Autosprint suggested out-of-work grand prix winner and Italian Jarno Trulli is available to step in immediately to replace the beleaguered Brazilian, whose contract expires this year. Ferrari seemed to clear a path for the 30-year-old's removal by moving to replace his F2012 chassis ahead of Sepang, "to clear up any doubts about the unusual performance of his car" last weekend […]

The Friday debrief

For the last two months, all we've been told is 'We don't know, wait until Melbourne'. Now that the F1 field is well and truly assembled in Australia, the waiting goes on as the infamously fickle weather in the seaside city disrupted running on Friday. The waiting goes in, if only for another 24 hours at which point more questions will be asked. It's a fun game. The dark horse in Melbourne is Mercedes. Their rear wing system means that they're setting the fastest times […]

Charlie Whiting’s Q&A on new rules for the 2012 F1 season

Q: Why has a four-hour total time limit been put on Grands Prix? CW: Last season the race in Montreal went on for four hours and four minutes. A race really should not go on longer than that. Should four hours elapse during a future race, drivers will receive a signal telling them they have one more lap before the chequered flag. Q: Race stewards will now be able to investigate an incident without first reporting it to the race director. Why is the system […]

Ecclestone: Kubica would have replaced Massa

If not for Robert Kubica's predicament, Felipe Massa would have lost his Ferrari seat by now. That is the view of F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone. He told Austria's Der Spiegel that Kubica, still recovering from horror injuries sustained in a rally crash in February last year, would have replace the struggling Brazilian Massa. "I think, for them (Ferrari), it's a question of alternatives," said Ecclestone. "Who, of those available to them, are better than Massa? "I am very confident that Robert Kubica would be […]

Raikkonen still motivated to win another championship

Speaking to Finnish media in Zurich today, Lotus F1 driver Kimi Raikkonen revealed that he is still motivated to win another world championship. "Of course the championship is always the goal. It is fine to try for another championship, but I am not obsessed with it. But I do not drive just for fun. It is not normal if you are not reaching for victory," said Raikkonen to Finnish television broadcaster MTV3. "You can't be terribly happy with second or third place. But winning is […]
