FIA rules out year-old power units

Formula 1's governing body, the FIA, has ruled out the possibility of customer squads using year-old power units from 2016. Manor Marussia, which has signed a current-year deal with Mercedes for 2016, currently uses 2014 power units from Ferrari, having secured a last-minute return to the grid at the start of the year. McLaren confirms Button to stay for 2016

McLaren has ended speculation regarding the future of Jenson Button by confirming that he will remain with the team into 2016. Button's future had been unclear in recent weeks amid suggestion that the 2009 world champion was considering walking away from the sport. Button's contract with McLaren was for two years, with the outfit holding an option to cancel the deal at the end of 2015. Australian GP moved forwards two weeks

Organisers of the Australian Grand Prix have confirmed that their 2016 event will take place from March 18-20, moving the start of the season forwards by two weeks. A provisional calendar earlier this year had listed the Australian Grand Prix as taking place on April 3, but that has now been moved to March 20. WMSC publishes provisional 2016 calendar

The FIA’s World Motor Sport Council has published a provisional compressed 21-race calendar for the 2016 season, which sees several significant changes from the current set-up. The season will begin later than usual on April 3 in Australia, with the opener twinned as a back-to-back race with China. Russia has been moved to May 1, with Malaysia shifted to a date in September, following the Singapore Grand Prix.
