Substitute Heidfeld tops Jerez Day 3

By on Saturday, February 12, 2011

Nick Heidfeld set the perfect impression to Renault as he topped the timesheets on the third day of testing in Jerez.

The German, 33, set his best time on the first lap of an eight lap stint, indicating that the lap was not a low fuel glory run. It is expected that Renault will field reserve driver Bruno Senna tomorrow, although Heidfeld is expected to be named as Kubica's replacement regardless of how the Brazilian performs.

Fernando Alonso racked up over 100 laps at a packed Jerez, which pleased the home fans.

Michael Schumacher was third for Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton was fourth after a day of not as much running as their rivals.

The session was stopped four times in total. Twice thanks to mechanical failure on Kamui Kobayashi's car, once for Buemi and once after Paul di Resta spun off the circuit.

The test concludes tomorrow where it is predicted that it might rain.
