Schumacher to return home for recovery

Michael Schumacher will return home to continue his recovery, almost nine months after suffering serious injury following a skiing accident in France.

Schumacher has been in hospital in the Swiss city of Lausanne since being transferred from Grenoble in mid-June.

In her first official statement since that occasion, Schumacher's manager Sabine Kehm has confirmed that the German's rehabilitation will now continue at home.

She nonetheless warned that Schumacher's recovery will still take time.

'Henceforth, Michael's recovery will take place at his home.

'Considering the injuries he suffered, progress has been made in the past weeks and months.

'There is still, however, a long and difficult road ahead.'

Schumacher's family also extended their thanks to the University Hospital of Lausanne, where the seven-times world champion has been since mid-June.

'We would like to extend our gratitude to the entire team at CHUV Lausanne for their thorough and competent work.

'We ask that the privacy of Michael's family continues to be respected, and that speculations about his health are avoided.'
