Sauber racers Esteban Gutierrez and Adrian Sutil say they expect the team to make a positive step forwards at this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix.

Sauber has struggled so far in 2014 and neither driver has scored a point, but the Swiss team has taken a substantial upgrade package to Barcelona in the hope of fighting for the points.

"We have an aggressive approach on getting the bits together," said Gutierrez. "Both the team and Ferrari have been working hard to get it up to where we want. Hopefully it’ll be a sufficient step to begin racing and get to where we want to be.

"It’s a few grams here, a few grams here but it’s quite a big amount – we can say that this is the start of our season.

"We are optimistic and confident but at the same time we know the others are working hard as well. It’ll be a different car so we have to get the most out of the track time.

"Visually we have some changes on the front wing, the body, the rear wing and the floor. It’s everywhere. It should be a reasonable step and hopefully it’s enough compared to the others."

Sutil says that he expects Sauber to be able to finish in the points.

"Definitely yes," he said when asked about the prospect of finishing in the top 10. "Our expectation is always to score a point or more and I want to be back in this area. If not, we will try to make it even better in the next races. But I believe we will make it. It’s a very good step on every area, the weight, the aerodynamic and the power train has improved. Tomorrow will be an important day to test it all and I expect a good improvement through the race weekend."
