Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg clocked the quickest time as Formula 1 returned to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for in-season testing.

Rosberg’s time of 1:24.374 was quicker than his lap from Saturday’s qualifying session at the Spanish Grand Prix.

Marcus Ericsson tested the Sauber C34 and set the second quickest time, ahead of Ferrari’s Raffaele Marciello.

Daniil Kvyat was fourth quickest in the Red Bull, ahead of Lotus driver Pastor Maldonado.

Nick Yelloly was promoted to testing duties with Force India a day earlier than expected as Pascal Wehrlein was suffering from a fever.

Yelloly, who conducts simulator activities for the squad, went sixth fastest in the VJM08.

Pierre Gasly made his Formula 1 test debut for Toro Rosso and went seventh fastest, ahead of his day in the Red Bull on Wednesday.

Williams driver Felipe Massa conducted a day of running in the FW37 and placed eighth.

Oliver Turvey received a rare outing for McLaren and set the ninth quickest time.
