Nico Rosberg says he is pleased with the progress made by Mercedes across the pre-season campaign after he ended the final test with the quickest overall time.

While Rosberg placed only seventh on the last day of running, his time on the Soft tyres from earlier in the week was not beaten, ensuring that Mercedes remains the squad to beat ahead of the first round of the season in Australia in two weeks' time.

"I'm pleased with the winter," said Rosberg.

"We've done a good job with the development of the car. That's not to say that others aren't also quick, but I'm optimistic for the first couple of races because we have a good car. I've been comfortable, and been quick, setting the best time of the whole winter test here in Barcelona two days ago. Things are going in the right direction."

Rosberg was nonetheless wary of the potential drop-off of the Soft tyres, which are set to be used at the first race at Albert Park.

"Today was an amazing day for testing because the conditions were so constant out there," he said.

"First time this winter, and also it's been the warmest day so today was really, really good. We just kept the fuel the same all the time, and just do some setup work and things like that. Its' cool. Also I did a soft long-run at the end, because in Melbourne we'll have the soft tire, and it's going to be very problematic. It really comes apart quickly."
