Rosberg on top in final practice

By on Saturday, May 26, 2012

Nico Rosberg set the fastest time in final practice for the Monaco Grand Prix.

Ahead of qualifying this afternoon, the German put in a lap of 1:15.159 to beat Felipe Massa by just 0.038s.

Sebastian Vettel was third for Red Bull, despite the reigning champion clipping the wall with his RB8 as he exited the Swimming Pool chicane.

Fernando Alonso and Romain Grosjean complete the top five.

The session came to a premature end after a crash from Pastor Maldonado brought out the red flags. The Spanish Grand Prix winner turned in too early at Casino Square, hitting the inside wall before bouncing to the outside wall. A lap earlier, Maldonado appeared to cut across Sergio Perez as the two approached Portier. An angry Perez told his team over the radio that he would like to take the matter to the stewards, saying "Maldonado is so crazy, guys. I want to complain about Maldonado."

Paul di Resta was the only other driver to come to grief; the Scot lost control under braking for the Nouvelle Chicane and wiped off his front wing on the inside barrier.
