Nico Rosberg says that failing to beat Lewis Hamilton in qualifying cost him a chance of victory at the Canadian Grand Prix.
Hamilton led away from pole in Canada and kept Rosberg at bay throughout the race to register his fourth win of the season and open up a 17 point buffer to his team-mate.
"I pushed like mad to put the pressure on but he didn’t make mistakes so fair play," said Rosberg.
"It was a challenging race as we had to save fuel and brakes, Lewis had to as well. It [the biggest difference] was just in qualifying really, the position makes a big difference and that’s what I have to work on next time."
"[My] start was good but not quite enough to somehow challenge Lewis and also a bit tight from Kimi [Raikkonen] behind and maybe Valtteri [Bottas].
"Second place after that, a very challenging race with fuel saving but more the brakes to adapt to front brakes getting too hot, changing brake balance and things like that, especially as I had Lewis in front so [I had] no clean air to cool the brakes but it worked out okay and I was still able to put the pressure on."
