A shocked Daniel Ricciardo admits that his first Grand Prix victory still hasn't sunk in after he claimed the win at the Canadian Grand Prix.

Ricciardo snatched the lead from an ailing Nico Rosberg with two laps remaining to secure his first win in Formula 1.

"I’m still a bit in shock," said the Australian.

"This is ridiculous. The race really came to life 15/20 laps from the end, [Lewis] Hamilton had a problem."

Ricciardo spent much of the race stuck behind Force India's Sergio Perez, who was bidding to execute a one stop strategy.

"I struggled to get past Pérez, we finally got a run and made a nice move and set my sights on Nico and found myself on the right spot to get the DRS, it’s an amazing feeling right now," he said.

[It's] really nice, it’s still a bit surreal, but just really cool.

"It’s not that we were leading the whole race so I didn’t have time to understand that I was going to win, it’s still taking a while to comprehend in my head. Obviously Mercedes had their issues, it was a good fight with Perez, struggling to pass him as they have a strong car down the straight but he was doing a good job through the corners."

"Out of the chicane I got a run on him, close to overshooting it, I dropped a couple wheels in the grass but it was fine. Got Nico in the closing stages, really happy with the result."
