Daniel Ricciardo expressed his elation as he collected his first ever Formula 1 pole position around the streets of Monte Carlo.
Ricciardo led the way during Thursday's second practice session and emphatically displayed his pace with a stellar lap at the start of Q3.
His effort remained unbeaten across the remainder of the session and he will line-up from top spot for the first time in his Formula 1 career.
"It's definitely a special place," he said, after securing the first pole position for a Renault-powered car in the V6 era.
"I knew coming into the weekend we would have a shot at it. It looked good from Thursday.
"I had it in my mind after Barcelona that I have been driving well but haven't quite got maximum rewards so I came into this weekend with a lot of confidence and a lot of belief I could be in this position.
"I have always enjoyed this place. We have a good package behind us and it's nice to be able to make the most of out it."
Ricciardo will start the race, barring the arrival of anticipated rain, on the Super Soft tyre after posting his best Q2 effort on the compound.
