Daniel Ricciardo has praised outgoing Red Bull team-mate Sebastian Vettel, saying that the world champion handled the relationship between them 'really well' in 2014.
Ricciardo joined Red Bull at the start of the year and has claimed three wins, while Vettel has suffered a win-less campaign and will move to Ferrari next season.
But Ricciardo says that he can learn from Vettel's humility during a troublesome year for the four-time world champion.
"I think the way he basically brings the people who work with him close to him, in a way he demands and gets what he wants," he said when asked what he has learned from Vettel.
"Obviously we’re always wanting something better from it [the car], he’s quite ruthless but also quite fair at the same time. He’s got a good balance of being serious and looking the team in the eye and saying ‘I need this’, but he earns their respect by doing it that way. He doesn’t rest, he’s not going to be happy being behind, the way he goes about it is pretty good."
Ricciardo said that one of the most pleasing aspects for him in 2014 was Vettel's reaction to the Australian's success.
"I wouldn’t say surprising, but I was pleased with the way he showed respect to me after my victories," he said.
"In Canada he was really genuinely happy for me to get my first win. Even [at] Spa he still came up to me and gave me compliments, it seemed genuine and seemed like he meant it.
"It’s not easy, we’re all competitive, but the way he handled the more difficult situations from his side he did well and I could probably learn from that. It’s easy to be grumpy and miserable when someone who beats you so I thought he handled that very well."
