Daniel Ricciardo says it was not worth him using Renault's new power unit during the Brazilian Grand Prix, as he qualified in ninth position.
Ricciardo fitted Renault's upgraded unit to his RB11 but qualified two positions behind team-mate Daniil Kvyat and was unimpressed by the developments.
"No," he said when asked if the engine had delivered an improvement.
"We had to try it and we do need some data on it but I’ll have a look at the overlay with Dani later but no it wasn’t worth it."
Ricciardo's 10-place penalty drops him to 19th position and he is hopeful of wet weather intervening in the race.
"I think the car is working quite well, we didn’t really touch the car all weekend, everyone ramped up in qualifying and we probably missed that last tenth or two," he said.
"I don’t think there was a whole lot we could have done differently, we’ll start 19th, it’ll be a fun race tomorrow, I want it to rain, don’t think it will, but if it does it’ll make it exciting."
