Daniel Ricciardo has been given a 10 place grid penalty for next weekend's Bahrain Grand Prix.

Ricciardo was penalised with the grid drop alongside a stop and go penalty after Red Bull released him unsafely from his third stop at the Malaysian Grand Prix.

The Australian retired from the race during the closing laps.

"It was looking like a solid points finish, the start was really good and I made positions," he told BBC Sport.

"I was starting to mix it up at the front which is fun but at the last pit stop we had an issue, a puncture, front wing issue, the stop go. The race went from looking really good to really bad in a short amount of time.

"Deep down I’m really disappointed but in me there’s a bit that’s happy as I’ve come out how I wanted to. We’ve started off on the front foot and hopefully we can soon get some points."
