Red Bull says it never considered Fernando Alonso as a candidate for its 2015 seat after Sebastian Vettel announced his intention to leave the reigning world champions.

Red Bull and Vettel will part company at the end of the season, with the German expected to go to Ferrari to replace McLaren-bound Alonso.

Red Bull has also confirmed that Daniil Kvyat will step into Vettel's seat and team principal Christian Horner says Alonso was not a candidate.

"Fernando is a wonderful driver, but our philosophy is to invest inwardly, invest in youth and give youngsters a chance," he said.

"Daniil is a very exciting talent and it is an exciting new dawn for Red Bull Racing.

"It has been our philosophy for several years to back youth and that is what we did with Sebastian. There were questions when we signed him, and when we signed Daniel Ricciardo, but we have demonstrated that it works."
