Felipe Nasr says that Sauber is being hindered by overusing its rear tyres around the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Nasr set the 15th quickest time in the afternoon session in Spain, ahead only of team-mate Marcus Ericsson and rivals Force India and Manor.

"We didn’t bring any major updates for the car so it was expected to have things a bit more difficult," he said.

"Main thing is the rear tyres overheating by our car not having enough downforce and you wear the rear tyres, when we get to the last sector we struggle.

"This is what we face and hopefully we can work things for tomorrow. We can still manage the tyre a little better, making sure the tyre makes the end of the lap."

Ericsson cut a more upbeat figure and believes that the squad could make Q3.

"I think for tomorrow we should take another step but we’re in the mix, some people [are] taking some step forward but we’ll still be fighting for the top 10 I’m certain," he said.

"Today we are quite similar to the competition except maybe Toro Rosso and McLaren made a step forward but we are more or less where we have been and we should be in that fight."
