Jenson Button says he will give 100% as he pushes for a podium finish at the British Grand Prix.

Button was third quickest during a damp qualifying session at Silverstone, collecting his best result on a Saturday since Brazil in 2012.

"I know it's only a third in qualifying, but for us in the last 18 months we've had no chance of getting this result," he admitted.

"It's nice in front of my home crowd. All through qualifying the pace was there, not compared to Mercedes, but it was there."

However, Button admitted that dry conditions forecast for Sunday could make his task tougher.

"I've made the race a little bit easier but we have to be realistic."

"I want to fight for a podium – if the weather is like today it's possible. In a standard dry race it'll be very tricky.

"But I will give 100 per cent and get the maximum out of this weekend."
