Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen has debuted the 'halo' cockpit protection system, which could be introduced into the sport next season.

Increasing head protection has been a primary concern for Formula 1 in recent years, with research accelerated in the wake of the deaths of Jules Bianchi and Justin Wilson.

Raikkonen took to the circuit on the third day of the final pre-season test in Spain with a concept of the 'halo' device fitted to his SF16-H to complete an installation lap.

It was agreed last week by Formula 1 figures that increased cockpit protection is set to be introduced in 2017, with the 'halo' concept the favoured option.
