Kimi Räikkönen ensured that Ferrari ended the Jerez test on top after he set the fastest time of the week on the final day at the Spanish venue.

Räikkönen posted a time of 1:20.841 on the Soft tyres with 90 minutes remaining to narrowly eclipse the time set by team-mate Sebastian Vettel on Monday.

Sauber ensured that its bright start continued as Marcus Ericsson placed second, 1.1s down on Räikkönen.

Ericsson did, however, cause the session to be halted when he stopped on track with 10 minutes remaining as Sauber conducted a fuel system check.

Lewis Hamilton posted the third quickest time for Mercedes, with the Briton recovering from a spin at the chicane in the morning which caused the session to be halted.

Max Verstappen was fourth for Toro Rosso, with Williams’ Felipe Massa in fifth.

Lotus’ Romain Grosjean received his first taste of the team’s E23 Hybrid and racked up 53 laps before the squad detected a power unit issue and opted to finish early.

Daniil Kvyat’s day began on the back foot when his car crawled to a halt within the first hour, causing the session to be red flagged. Red Bull diagnosed an ERS issue and Kvyat was able to return to the track once repairs were finished.

McLaren again rounded out the runners but Jenson Button enjoyed the squad’s most productive day of the test.

Button, who was hit by an oil problem in the morning, completed 35 laps of the track – three more than team-mate Fernando Alonso managed on Tuesday – before a fuel pump issue brought his running to a halt.

The second four-day pre-season test takes place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya from February 19 to 22.
