Formula 1 tyre supplier Pirelli has confirmed that a 12-hour test will take place at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi in December.

The company, which will remain in Formula 1 until at least the end of 2019, requested the extra running, which has now been approved by the FIA.

The presence of Formula 1 teams is voluntary, though each outfit which commits has been asked to run either regular or reserve drivers for the session, which will run from 9am to 9pm on December 1st.

"[Teams] will not be allowed to try new parts nor alter the cars during the test," Pirelli confirmed.

"Pirelli will define the test programme for each car. The tyres used during this test will not be considered as part of the testing allocation for 2015."

Pirelli will also use the test to introduce its new Ultra Soft compound to its slick tyre collection, alongside the existing range.

The Ultra Soft will be purple-marked after 85% of fans voted for the colour during a social media contest.
