Pirelli extends Formula 1 tyre deal

Pirelli-F1Pirelli has confirmed that they will continue to be the sole tyre supplier to Formula 1 until the end of 2016 season.

Pirelli has been the single tyre supplier to the sport since the start of 2011.

In co-ordination with the new deal, amended testing regulations have been set out by the sport's governing body.

'One of the 12 days of official pre-season testing, as prescribed in the 2014 sporting regulations, will be dedicated exclusively to wet tyre testing,' read a statement.

2014's pre-season tests take place at Jerez, from January 28th to 31st, and in Bahrain, in February.

Teams must also dedicate one day of running in-season to a tyre test.

Formula 1 will test for two days after four races this year.

'Each team will dedicate one of their eight days of in-season testing, as prescribed in the 2014 sporting regulations, exclusively to tyre testing. This means that during each of the eight days of in-season testing, at least one team – and up to a maximum of two – will be concentrating on tyre testing along with Pirelli’s engineers.'

Pirelli will continue to determine the specification of the tyres and to manage all aspects of their development, in close consultation with the FIA and the teams.
