Charles Pic says he hopes to stay with Caterham for a second season in 2014.
Pic joined Caterham from Marussia prior to the start of 2013 and reckons he can extend his stay into next year.
“Yeah we will see,” he said when asked by F1Zone whether he will stay with the team in 2014.
“For the moment I’m trying to stay focused on the rest of the season as this is most important thing and then after I leave this to my team to sort.”
“It’s more the job of my manager to speak about 2014. I think for me I need to focus on this season as we still have a target to achieve.”
Pic is the only driver to have raced for both Caterham and Marussia and while reluctant to draw direct comparisons between the two, he says the biggest sway for him to move was the Renault engine.
“I think it’s very hard to compare them,” he said.
“They’re two good teams and last year with Marussia I learnt a lot, and this year I am very happy with Caterham. For me the biggest thing was the Renault engine and the KERS, which I did not have last year.”
Pic is also not expecting any miracles from Caterham for this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix.
“I think you always have some chance but it’s not the circuit where we will be at our best in terms of performance.”
“The track is extreme on the low [downforce] side and as a small team we don’t have the capacity to bring special kit for this track but we will always try and get 100% out of the car. The first and main target will be to be in front of the Marussias and even increase the gap if we can, the second one will be to close the gap to Williams.”
