Sergio Perez expects the characteristics of the Monte Carlo street circuit to result in more driver errors at this weekend's event.

Formula 1 racers face the streets of the Principality for the first time on Thursday under the sport's new regulations, with reduced downforce, harder tyres and increased torque.

The Force India driver reckons that there could be more errors than in previous events.

"It will be very interesting to see how we go around here – I think you’re going to see a lot more driver mistakes, I expect the driver to be able to make a little bit more of a difference than normally in Monaco," he said. "You will see Mercedes, then Red Bull, but I think the driver can make a bit more difference here. [It will be a] very interesting Monaco, more than any other year."

Despite such changes, Perez does not believe that he needs to alter his approach towards the race weekend.

"I think the approach doesn’t change, you have to drive the car to its limits – but of course you don’t want to make a mistake," he said. "Any mistake here is expensive and you can lose qualifying – it’s very important not to do any errors."

Perez also thinks that Force India - which has scored points in every race in 2014 - should fare better than in the previous round in Spain, when he and team-mate Nico Hulkenberg rounded out the points scorers.

"I expect we can be a bit better here than in Barcelona, where downforce counts a lot more. Monaco is still important, but I don’t think it makes as big of a difference. In Formula 1 for a number of reasons I never got a good result here but I always enjoy it."
