Formula 3 champion Esteban Ocon will drive for Lotus during the first free practice session at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Ocon, 18, claimed this year's title in the junior category and recently tested for Lotus and Ferrari as his prize for clinching the championship.

Ocon, a Lotus junior driver, will replace Romain Grosjean during the first session at Yas Marina.

"It is a fantastic opportunity for me to drive in my first session at a Grand Prix and I am tremendously grateful to Lotus and Gravity Sport Management," said Ocon, who will also drive the Lotus E22 on the first day of the post-race test.

"The practice session on Friday will be my first time driving the Yas Marina circuit and my first time in the latest generation Formula 1 car, so there will be a lot to learn, especially as I will be completing the team’s programme for the free practice session.

"For the test day we will have far more time me to learn and develop with the car so I’m really looking forward to Abu Dhabi."

Lotus also confirmed that reserve driver Charles Pic will test the E22 on the final day of running on Wednesday.
