Manor Marussia driver Roberto Merhi has been excluded from the results of this weekend's Formula Renault 3.5 Series round in Austria after triggering a huge crash at the finish.
Merhi slowed suddenly as he crossed the line in fourth position at the Red Bull Ring and was collected by rival Nicholas Latifi, who was sent flipping over the back of Merhi's Pons machine.
Neither driver was injured in the accident but Merhi, who was demoted to 11th following a separate time penalty for exceeding track limits, was later disqualified from the results and prohibited from participating in the second race.
Merhi took to his Twitter page, claiming that he slowed over the line due to a damaged car, following contact with a rival earlier in the race.
Merhi is competing in the championship for Pons Racing, alongside his Manor Marussia duties in Formula 1, and currently occupies 11th in the standings, having placed third in 2014.
British driver Oliver Rowland currently leads the championship, which was won last year by Carlos Sainz Jr, and as a result of heading the pack at the halfway stage he will conduct the Formula 1 demonstration for Red Bull at the next event.
