Mercedes have today completed a shakedown of their new car at Silverstone, with various footage emerging on the web of a car that looks as though it has been designed with the step nose design. If this is the case, McLaren will remain the only car that doesn’t feature the step nose design.

The team will officially unveil their car at Barcelona next week prior to the start of the second pre-season test, which will leave only Marussia and HRT to unveil their new cars. Michael Schumacher will be the first to drive the new car at the Barcelona test, before handing over to team-mate Nico Rosberg the following day.

With Mercedes opting for a later launch date in comparison to the other teams, many of the teams believe Mercedes could have something to hide for 2012. Red Bull’s Technical Director, Adrian Newey, said in an interview with Sport Bild: “I assume that they want to hide something from the competition. It must be something that can be copied quite quickly; otherwise they wouldn’t try so hard to keep it secret.”

Whether the later launch date will benefit Mercedes, all will be revealed by the season opening Australian Grand Prix next month.
