Lotus driver Pastor Maldonado has been permitted to start Sunday's Australian Grand Prix.

Maldonado has endured a torrid time in Australia and failed to set a time during qualifying.

The Venezuelan driver took to the circuit late on in Q1 after issues with his Renault power unit and ran wide on several occasions, before rain put paid to his efforts.

He failed to set a time but will start from 21st place after a penalty for Esteban Gutierrez.
