Kevin Magnussen says that McLaren's Honda-powered MP4-30 is more consistent than last year's car, the MP4-29, after his first day of 2015 action at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on Saturday.

Magnussen raced the Mercedes-powered MP4-29 in 2014 but was demoted to a test and reserve driver role for 2015, following the signing of Fernando Alonso

But Magnussen was drafted in to replace Alonso at this week's test, as the Spaniard recovers from his accident during last week's test at the venue.

Magnussen placed eighth on the time sheets and completed 39 laps of the track before an oil leak curtailed his running.

"This year’s car is really different to last year’s," he said. "It feels much more consistent; it’s more predictable and driver-friendly.

"It’s not fast enough yet, but it feels like a solid baseline, and there’s obviously still plenty more to come. I think McLaren-Honda should have a good car if they continue in this direction.

"It’s nice to be back in the car. I always enjoy driving new cars, and this is a car I haven’t driven before. I can see the work we did last year has gone into this car."

Jenson Button will complete the test for McLaren on Sunday.
