Nico Hulkenberg labelled his start to the Monaco Grand Prix weekend as 'positive' after setting the seventh fastest time during second practice in Monaco.

Hulkenberg remained in the garage for much of the 90 minute session but emerged from the pits on option tyres and led the times for a brief period, before dropping to seventh.

"The car is okay," he said. "Generally we’re in the ballpark in terms of set-up – there’s the usual tweaks but it’s been a positive day.

"We only ran at the very end and got it at the perfect time, the first car out on slicks I think – it was pretty much dry. It wasn’t too tricky."

"Grip is always an issue, you always want more but you have to deal with what you’ve got."

Hulkenberg added that the initial lack of running - just one lap was completed during the first 40 minutes of the session - was a pity for the fans but just part of Formula 1.

"Some teams maybe don’t have many spare parts and what do you learn from it? The rest of the weekend is supposed to be dry so why would we go out? I think it’s a pity [for spectators] but this is Formula 1."
