Force India driver Nico Hulkenberg claimed sixth position as he made his World Endurance Championship debut with Porsche at Spa Francorchamps.

Hulkenberg took part in the six hour race as a preparation for next month's Le Mans 24 Hours and the #19 Porsche was entered as a back-up to the #17 and #18 919 machines.

But the squad's hopes of a strong result with the #19 ended when Hulkenberg's team-mate, Nick Tandy, collided with a Porsche 911 from the GT class while he was attempting to lap it just 15 minutes into proceedings.

The front end of the car sustained substantial damage and while it was repaired, the time lost - allied to further technical issues - meant that Hulkenberg, Tandy and Earl Bamber could recover only to sixth, three laps behind the winning Audi crew.

"I felt good in the car during the race," said Hulkenberg. "I did a double stint with one set of tyres, which was tough on the rubber.

"Managing the traffic was a very interesting and enjoyable experience, although I had a few moments. Sometimes the timing to overtake is perfect and sometimes it isn’t."
