New championship leader Lewis Hamilton says he is pleased to have enjoyed a clean weekend after he stormed to victory at the Singapore Grand Prix.

Hamilton led all but two laps under the lights at Marina Bay to take the win, while team-mate Nico Rosberg retired due to a mechanical problems.

Consequently, Hamilton re-takes the lead of the championship for the first time since May and now holds a three point advantage over the German.

"I was so excited, I was looking for that clean weekend and this has been it," he said.

"[But] it’s not perfect for the team because of Nico, there’s things we can work on."

Rosberg retired due to a steering wheel issue and he urged Mercedes to combat their reliability woes.

"It was just that the steering wheel didn't work and so the whole car wasn't working," Rosberg said.

"We need to find out what it is because again that's a reliability problem. We've had quite a few this year and that's our weakness. We need to get to the bottom of these things and make the car 100 per cent reliable."
