Lewis Hamilton described the ‘overwhelming’ feelings as he secured his third world title with victory at the United States Grand Prix.
Hamilton won a frantic race at the Circuit of the Americas to build an unassailable lead in the standings with three rounds to go, confirming his position as the 2015 champion.
“I’m overwhelmed at the moment, I’m sitting here thinking…I remember my first British [karting] championship where my Dad and I drove home singing ‘we are the champions’,” he said.
“It’s just crazy to think three-time Formula 1 world champion and I owe it all to my dad and family who sacrificed so much for me to be here.
“I’m buzzing inside. It’s the greatest feeling I’ve ever had in my life… unbelievable. It was such a fun race, ups and downs, Nico [Rosberg] was ahead 10 seconds at one point, I was struggling, then to come back, I never give up.
“I know it sounds crazy but there wasn’t one point in the race where I had a second of doubt.”
