Lewis Hamilton does not believe that a minor error during the closing stages of Q3 cost him pole position at the Canadian Grand Prix.

Hamilton made a lock-up entering turn eight on his hot lap during the final moments of the session and lost out to Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg by less than a tenth of a second.

"I went wide a couple of times at turn six and then turn eight, but no, Nico did a better job today so I need to work hard to make sure I do a better job tomorrow," Hamilton said.

[It] wasn’t [the] greatest qualifying session. Sometimes [you have] good ones, sometimes bad ones.

"But [it's] great for team that we got 1-2 in qualifying."

Despite Mercedes having claimed every pole position and victory so far in 2014, Hamilton dismissed suggestions that Sunday's race will be a straight fight between him and team-mate Rosberg.

"I don’t think it is between the two of us," he said.

"In qualifying Sebastian [Vettel] wasn’t as close as he’d like to be but their [Red Bull] race pace was good in the last race so we cannot disregard Sebastian or Red Bull, we need to be cautious still and keep pushing."
