Haas team boss Guenther Steiner says the outfit is hoping to finish inside the top 10 when it makes its Formula 1 debut in Australia.
Haas will join the sport this year after almost two years of preparation, during which they have formed a technical alliance with Ferrari and recruited Romain Grosjean and Esteban Gutierrez.
Haas' new car will make its debut in testing next month and Steiner is optimistic that the team will be able to join the midfield from the outset.
"We would like to make the points," he told Sky Sports.
"Qualifying, if we get to Q2 we will be fine. To have a chance of points is our goal and to put on a good show.
"To show what we have worked the last two years for and we have no big dramas going on.
"That is our biggest aim at the moment."
Haas will be Formula 1's first new team since Lotus Racing, Virgin Racing and Hispania joined the grid at the start of 2010.
