Esteban Gutierrez says that Sauber must put its learning into action and pick up results, starting at this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix.

Gutierrez has not scored a point so far this season but the Mexican insists that the team has made progress following last week's two day test in Barcelona.

But Gutierrez knows that the Swiss team must reflect this knowledge on-track.

"We know things, we made steps but we need to put it into results," he said.

"The direction we’re trying to follow is right – there’s certain things which we needed to solve, it was evident; other things we were not happy with the package. We’ve been putting things together and I hope soon that will be sorted. We’re not happy with the results, we want to make a step and do it as soon as possible."

A lack of straight line speed has been a key issue for Sauber this season - Gutierrez was passed easily on the main straight during the Spanish Grand Prix - and he is hopeful that the reduced reliance on this aspect will aid the team this weekend.

"It’s a complement of things – the speed is one thing but our car is good in the corners compared to others – we have the numbers but now we have to prove it and obviously at a track like Monaco this makes it less of an issue, the straight line speed," he said.

"I hope it’ll suit us better – the top speed we lack in Monaco is less of an issue – there’s a lot of corners as well, not a lot of high speed corners which is a pity, but hopefully it suits our car."
