Romain Grosjean says sixth position for Haas on its Formula 1 debut feels like a victory, as the outfit secured the best result for a new team since Toyota in 2002.
Grosjean started from 19th position in the VF-16 but made quiet progress before being aided by the red flag period, as he was able to change tyres in the pit lane.
Grosjean emerged in ninth place on Medium tyres and was able to run to the end of the race, moving up to sixth as rivals stopped.
"It feels like standing on the top step of the podium for us, amazing race, amazing weekend," he said
"Australia has never been kind to me so finally I changed colour and it work.
"The key was the strategy, under the red flag we could change the tyres, free pit stop, staying on those Hards for 39 laps was not easy as we had no reference, but we kind of got it right and we made it!"
