Romain Grosjean expressed his happiness with Lotus's improvements after qualifying in 14th place for the Canadian Grand Prix.

Lotus had feared that they would struggle for performance at this weekend's event but Grosjean believes that the team fared better than expected.

"It went pretty well to be fair, we were expecting a tough race here as our top speed and low downforce package is probably not our biggest strength," he told journalists, including F1Zone.net

"I'm happy with the set-up changes we did since Monaco and the car is going in the right direction, I do enjoy driving it which is quite important.

"I think we could have gone one or two positions better at the end as we missed the chequered flag before the last lap. But if you look at the time difference we are much closer to the top than before."

"Tyre degradation may be much higher than yesterday and we’ll try and play with that [in the race]."

Grosjean is nonetheless optimistic that Lotus can perform better at the next few races, where there is less of an emphasis on straight line speed.

"I think it’s like last year, at high downforce the car works pretty well and it’s a strength we’ve kept, so hopefully it’s going to work better there," he said.
