The first pre-season tests of the 2012 Formula 1 season will start in Jerez, Spain on February 7, but the recently rebranded Marussia F1 Team will not be there. Delays in the production of the new car make it impossible for the team to have their 2012 challenger ready until the final pre-season test in Barcelona on March 1. Marussia has already decided to skip the first test in Jerez and start their season with their 2011 car at the second pre-season testing session in Barcelona on February 21.

Of course, such a situation does not make Marussia’s driver Timo Glock happy, as he explained to German news agency dpa. "It's a shame that we are getting the new car later. As a consequence, it is only possible to have a short preparation [for the season]”, he said.

Nevertheless, the German driver does not feel frustrated given that the first important updates are only going to be introduced at the fifth race of the season. "For us, it was clear from the beginning that we will have a hard time during the first third [of the season],” he explained.

Moreover, Glock feels optimistic that the technical partnership with McLaren will help the team improve and close the gap to the midfield teams. "The whole 2012 year is encouraging," he admits. "Of course, the main goal is to develop towards the top,” he added.
