Lewis Hamilton says that he was hindered by 'glazed brakes' during the final qualifying session for the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa Francorchamps.

Hamilton slid wide at La Source and also erred under braking at the Bus Stop chicane before setting the second quickest time, 0.228s behind Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg.

Hamilton believes that he lost time due to the braking issue, which developed on the out-lap.

"I had a glazed front left brake, so the car was pulling to the left, or the right, so I had to bring the braking zone back a bit and was losing time," he said.

"This is a circuit where you need confidence in the brakes, I just went straight on everywhere, the left brake just wasn’t working, I don’t know. It’s okay, who knows, it might be a blessing in disguise."

Hamilton was nonetheless upbeat over his prospects of passing Rosberg in the race.

"I’m not disappointed today, in previous years P2 was the best place to start in.

"Last year I was on pole and Sebastian [Vettel] blasted past me on the straight. I went in to qualifying not knowing whether the car would make it through, so I’m happy to be up here."
