A furious Pastor Maldonado suggested that his Williams team had sabotaged his car ahead of qualifying for the United States Grand Prix.

While team-mate Valtteri Bottas topped Q1 and eventually qualified in ninth place, Maldonado was knocked out in Q1 and will start the race from 18th place on the grid.

"I never got 100 per cent from the tyres, I think in my car somebody is playing with the pressure/temperature, it's not that clear," said Maldonado, who will leave the team at the end of the year.

Maldonado was asked why there was such a deficit to team-mate Bottas.

"It's difficult to say, I think you need to ask the team, the guys who are working on the car. I think it's quite clear."

"One more race to go so...great."

Deputy team principal Claire Williams downplayed Maldonado's comments when asked about her driver's frustration.

"Qualifying is a big adrenaline rush for drivers and so I'm not surprised by that, people say things after these kind of situations," Williams told Sky F1.

"We will go back and talk to the engineers and find out what happened but never in Williams' history would we ever do anything like that."
