The FIA's World Motor Sport Council has issued an updated calendar for the 2016 Formula 1 season, which features several changes.

The season will now begin in Australia on March 20, two weeks earlier than originally planned, before a sequence of standalone events in Bahrain, China and Russia.

The Canadian Grand Prix has been paired as the first of a back-to-back event with the inaugural race in Baku, on the same weekend as the Le Mans 24 Hours.

It has been noted that the race in Azerbaijan will not start until the Le Mans 24 Hours has been completed.

The British Grand Prix has been moved to 10 July, with the Hungarian Grand Prix moved prior to Formula 1's return to Germany.

This means that there will be four Formula 1 races in the month of July, though this has enabled a four-week summer break to be retained in August.

The season will conclude in Abu Dhabi, as expected, as the end of November.

Provisional 2016 calendar:

  • 20 March - Australia
  • 3 April - Bahrain
  • 17 April - China
