Danish youngster Kevin Magnussen will make his Formula 1 debut in 2014 after being promoted from the team's young driver programme.

21-year-old Magnussen had an upbringing in motorsport as father Jan briefly raced in Formula 1 before enjoying a lengthy career in sportscars, in which he still participates.

Magnussen won the Danish Formula Ford festival in 2008 and enjoyed a couple of successful seasons in Formula Three.

In 2012, he joined the World Series by Renault championship and claimed a single win on his way to seventh place in the title race.

He moved across to DAMS for 2013 and won twice early on in the year as he battled with fellow McLaren youngster Stoffel Vandoorne. As the season progressed, Magnussen gained an advantage over his rival and he swept to the championship, ending the year with three dominant victories.

Magnussen also tested for McLaren in Abu Dhabi towards the end of 2012 and again during the young driver test in Britain last year.
