Button satisfied to obtain maximum

Jenson Button believes that McLaren achieved the maximum result possible during qualifying for the Chinese Grand Prix.

Button toured around the circuit in Q3 on prime tyres, ensuring that he will start the race from eighth place.

"Our aim was to be the first Prime-tyre runner on the grid and we did that," he said.

"This was the best we could do with what we have."

McLaren has struggled during the opening two races of 2013 but the Brit feels that his Q2 pace shows there is cause to be optimistic.

"I think we should be very happy with our qualifying performance: we don’t really have the pace of the front-running cars yet, but finishing seventh in Q2 was really satisfying."

Team mate Sergio Perez could manage only twelfth and admits he should have progressed through to Q3.

"I really should have been in Q3 today – but I didn’t manage to find as much time as the others in Q2. That was frustrating; the warm-up of my tyres before my quick-lap wasn’t ideal, and I struggled to really pull everything together on the lap."
