Jenson Button is hopeful that McLaren can achieve a strong result in the Brazilian Grand Prix in order to put pressure on Ferrari in the battle for fourth in the Constructors' Championship.

McLaren is 49 points behind their rivals with two rounds remaining but the Brit, who will start the race from fifth place, is hoping that the squad can bag a haul of points to exert pressure on Ferrari.

"It’s a massive gap to Ferrari but you’ve got to be ambitious and have targets and to make them feel like they’re being challenged," he told Sky Sports.

"[It's a] good position for this race and obviously next one being double points, we’ll see."

Button added that it was a difficult challenge to get the Option tyres into their working range during qualifying.

"It was interesting, [I] struggled to get the tyres working out there, difficult considering it’s a Soft tyre," he said.

"[I'm] very happy to be fifth, my qualifying runs weren’t anywhere near what they should have been, [I] locked up massively on my second run so luckily my first run was quick enough.

"[The] aim is to keep the pack behind and stay as close to the cars in front in case there’s action, always can be between team-mates, we want to be there to pounce if anything happens."
