Sebastien Buemi only learnt of his ouster from Toro Rosso this week

Twenty-four hours after the news broke that both Sebastien Buemi and his teammate Jaime Alguersuari will not be retained by Toro Rosso next season, Buemi broke his silence in an interview with Swiss website 24heures.ch.

Red Bull's sister team made a shock announcement on Wednesday by confirming Jean-Eric Vergne and Daniel Ricciardo as their drivers for 2012, ousting Buemi and Alguersuari in the process. The Spanish driver was quick to respond in the hours following the announcement, calling the decision "completely incomprehensible."

Buemi revealed that he learned of his ouster from Toro Rosso while still working in the Red Bull simulator at Milton Keynes. When asked whether the news had surprised him, Buemi said, "Absolutely! I fell from the sky! A few days earlier, I had been discussing things for the next season. I was in the simulator yesterday morning at Red Bull Racing in Milton Keynes, where Franz and Helmut called me..."

Like his former teammate, the 23-year-old Buemi refuses to criticize his former team over their decision, having spent three years with the team.

“Obviously I’m disappointed, but it is their decision and I respect it. I have not forgotten that without them I would never have come this far, they helped me tremendously for a long time, almost since my debut in Formula BMW, then F3, GP2 and F1.”

With the limited number of available seats left for 2012, Toro Rosso's decision puts a huge road block in the progression of Buemi's career in Formula 1.

The Swiss driver declined to comment on his short-term future in Formula 1. “I cannot say anything for now. Apart from the fact that I am no longer driving a Toro Rosso in 2012, the doors are not completely closed for me at Red Bull. It is being discussed. We did a good job together until now and there is a good foundation. There are plenty of things possible for my future. I am remaining positive and very motivated,” Buemi said.
