Williams driver Valtteri Bottas is sure that he will be deemed fit to race in Malaysia this weekend after sitting out the first round of the year in Australia.
Bottas complained of back pain after qualifying in sixth place for the race and was taken to hospital, where it was discovered that he had suffered a small tear in the annular part of a disc in his lower back.
While Bottas was eager to race, he did not pass a final medical examination and subsequently did not take the start.
Bottas has spent the time between races in Indonesia and will need to pass a medical evaluation on Thursday before he is cleared to participate at Sepang this weekend.
"After Melbourne I have stayed in Asia to acclimatise to the hot conditions and adjust to the right time zone," said Bottas.
"I trained a lot over the winter to prepare for these physically difficult conditions. After such a frustrating Sunday in Australia, I have taken the necessary measures to make sure I arrive in Malaysia fit to race and ready to bring the results home."
