Valtteri Bottas set the quickest time for Williams as Formula 1’s pre-season testing programme concluded at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on Sunday.

Bottas moved to the front of the pack with a 1:23.063 towards the end of the morning session and his time was not trumped as most of the drivers focused on race simulations after the lunch break.

Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel finished four-tenths of a second down on Bottas, with Sauber rookie Felipe Nasr in third.

Max Verstappen lost time during the afternoon session when he stopped out on track with a suspected engine problem but he was able to return to action for the final hour, during which he set the fourth quickest time.

Daniel Ricciardo’s Red Bull stopped at the end of the pit lane during the morning session due to an ERS problem but he returned to the circuit later in the day and placed fifth.

Sergio Pérez received his first taste of Force India’s new VJM08 and he set the sixth quickest time, having accumulated over a century of laps, to add to the substantial mileage racked up by Nico Hülkenberg across the previous two days.

Nico Rosberg has a quiet day for Mercedes and was seventh, ahead of McLaren’s Jenson Button, who enjoyed a comparatively productive afternoon session after missing all but 15 minutes of the morning running.

Pastor Maldonado completed the runners after his day came to an early end when he crashed out at Turn 4 a few minutes into the afternoon session.
