Valtteri Bottas believes his lap during qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix was 'pretty close' to perfect as he set the third quickest time at Monza.

Bottas, who has claimed four podium finishes from the last five races, will line up in third place on the grid, behind only the Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.

"Pretty close [to perfect]," he said when asked about his lap.

"Many braking zones are quite bumpy on the low downforce [set-up], [at] high speed it is not easy but I did it quite well and lap by lap the times were consistent, there was not much more left in the car."

Bottas is also confident that Williams can take the fight to Mercedes during the race although remains wary of challenges from behind.

"I really hope so," he said. "From Friday to today they seem to have a bit more pace, in qualifying we thought we could be closer to them today but I think we have solid race pace.

"I think we should never underestimate them [Red Bull], last week they were pretty quick and we didn’t expect to be behind them, but we’re a bit more confident here. Hopefully there is not much threat from behind us and we can focus on the things happening just in front."
