Williams driver Valtteri Bottas has been given a three-place grid penalty for this weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix due to an infringement while the second practice session was under red flag conditions.

The session was halted when Fernando Alonso's McLaren came to a halt on the approach to Mergulho but Bottas was deemed to have passed Felipe Nasr between Descida do Lago and Ferradura.

Stewards slapped Bottas with a three-place penalty for his transgression, along with two points on his license, his first for the current 12 month period.

Bottas is the second driver to sustain a grid drop, with Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo facing a 10-place demotion due to a new Renault unit in his RB11.
