Bahrain set to host last race

By on Monday, April 11, 2011

A source from the Bahrain International Circuit claims that the circuit will host the final race of the season, at an unspecified date in December. The source pointed out that those responsible for the Bahrain Grand Prix are in ‮ ‬ constant contact with the FIA with a deadline of May 1st looming. An official announcement is expected after that.

The grand prix - set to be the season opener - was postponed from its original March 13th date after political uprising in the Gulf state, causing concerns over the safety of personnel and the political implications this would have.

Such a move is unlikely to be popular with teams - or fans who hoped Brazil would host the season finale - as they would have to travel from Abu Dhabi to Brazil and then to Bahrain, as well as the proximity of the last race to Christmas. The original November 27th finish to the world championship is the latest since 1963, but running into December would not be popular.

Note: We cannot confirm fully the authenticity of the source, but we have it on good word that the race will take place.
